Walking

So a few weeks ago Kylee started walking. It was definitely exciting watching her take her first few steps and watch her discover a new and faster mode of transportation. With much practice, some bumps and bruises, and some courage she has begun to get better at this new talent.

PROS: She is growing up, provides amusement to watch her, she's further from the ground making eating things off the floor a little harder, someday I won't have to carry her anymore.

CONS: She is growing up and won't be my little baby anymore, she's further from the ground and falls harder (leads to more crying), takes longer to get anywhere because she wants more independence and wants to walk or crawl everywhere on her own.


P.S. I forgot to mention Kylee is a munchkin. Ha ha, for some reason the video is extra wide and makes Kylee look like an Oompa Loompa.

Pigtails

I know, it is not like no one has ever seen pigtails before. They have probably been around for hundreds of years, but they were still so cute on Kylee today. Today was the first time that I have attempted to do something with her hair, other than putting a headband on. She looked so cute and it definitely made her look older, especially since she is walking as well.

Lesson learned today: pigtails are very cute, but not worth all the effort that it takes to do them yet. As soon as Kylee sat in her car seat, there went the pigtails. I am going to just have to wait until she has a little longer hair so it will hopefully last a little longer.

"Going Primal"

Yeah I know, weird title. You can owe the title to my friend Rachel because this is how she described something Kylee did today.

So today was Kylee's and my first day to hang out in our pool since it has opened. We headed over with friends in the afternoon to play and beat the heat. After playing for awhile we got out since the kids were shivering.

This is where it gets funny and I really WISH I had a camera to take a picture. I took Kylee's swimsuit and swim diaper off to dry her off and warm her up. Literally, about 30 seconds after I had taken off her diaper and placed her on the ground she crawled a step or two, squatted, and peed. Right there by the pool, on the cement, in front of everyone. It was hilarious!!! Kurt did not find it as funny surprisingly. He told me to get a diaper on the little bugger as soon as possible. Ha ha ha....all in a day. Kids sure keep our lives interesting and give you new perspectives all the time.

Why?

So Kylee has now learned how to open up the doors to our cabinets? Kurt refuses to place child safety guards to prevent her from further rummaging in the cabinets. So what do you get when your child plays in the bathroom cabinets?

Why is this the first thing my child is drawn to? She can sit there for half an hour just playing with these and she has even learned how to undo the wrapper. Trust me, in about 11-12 years she is not going to be this excited about tampons.

P.S. Sorry to male readers for the content, but it is a part of life. Deal with it.

Lake Thompson

Yesterday we were invited to take a little trip out of the city and enjoy a little break. It took us a little bit to actually find the lake. (We drove past it without realizing it.)

It was nice to enjoy the quiet of nature and just relax by the lake. Ryan and Marques caught fish, they were only guppies, but it was still something.


Liam and Kylee took advantage of the water and enjoyed playing along the shore with rocks, mud, and whatever else they could find. Kylee kept trying to eat the lake's plant life. Luckily, she has not gotten sick from it yet, so I am thinking we are home free.

Horsin' Around: Take Two

So Kurt has two weeks off before starting back to school for summer semester. There have been several trips we have talked about, but nothing has been set in stone yet.

Instead of sitting around, I decided to take advantage of having a manny (male nanny) around during the day. I dragged Kurt out to the stable yesterday so Kylee and I could enjoy the sunshine and I could enjoy riding a little.

It was great knowing that Kylee was having fun with her dad while I was enjoying doing the thing that I love: horseback riding! Plus a bonus, Teddy didn't buck me off like the last two rides. Oh boy! You can definitely tell Teddy Bear is all boy. Sorry about that.

Sand, Surf, and Sunshine

From last Thursday through Monday we were enjoying the beach of Outer Banks, North Carolina. We rented a beach house with 4 other couples (makes it SO MUCH more affordable) in Rodanthe.

(For all of those wondering, it's pronounced Row-dan-thee). There was a debate to determine how the city's name was truly pronounced. Thank you Wikipedia for clearing that up for us.

We enjoyed the beach that was down the street from our house. It was Kylee's first opportunity to get down and dirty in the sand. Her favorite pastime was to eat the sand and seashells. She even swallowed a seashell before I could get it out. Yummy. (Explain to me why kids eat the grossest things, but won't eat their vegetables??)

My favorite activity during our trip was taking the ferry to Ocracoke Island and hanging out on the beach. It's a pristine beach with white sand, clear blue water, and lots of space.

I also had the opportunity to canter a horse down the beach and ride through the surf. This might have swayed my opinion for this island a little. :) Come on, what girl that likes horses has not had dreams of this?

The one bummer of our trip was that it was windy every day and most every minute of the day. But overall, it was fun to be among friends, enjoy the beach, and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

North Carolina will be one of the things I miss for sure when we eventually move from here.

P.S. Ryan even caught something when he was fishing. It was called a skate, looks a lot like a stingray.
